You’ll Stay Off This Local’s Beach If You Know What’s Good For You

This local knows the little markets with the best ice cream and he’s disgusted by the non-locals invading his territory.

Being a local can be difficult. Mostly because no one’s really a local. We’re all just tourists at our own wave, no matter how long we’ve been surfing there. Sure, there’s the old guy who surfs it every day and probably deserves a few more waves than the new person, but all too often the so-called “rules” fall by the wayside, especially in this day and age of lawyers and litigation. Gone are the days of a quick punch in the teeth. Gone are the days of the grom dunks. Gone are the days of tire slashing and window waxing. Aside from a few select places, lineups are overrun and under-ruled. Unless you’re at this guy’s beach. He knows the little markets with the best ice cream and he’s disgusted by the non-locals invading his territory. “Häagen-Dazs is a local thing,” he says. And you better not mess with his local cuisine or his beach.
