Learning By Doing with Snowboard Photographer Vernon Deck

One of the sport’s best lensmen gives us an inside look at shooting the pros.

The Long Drive

Picture 1 of 7

I made this picture as Pat Moore and I were driving from Jackson Hole to Whistler, 40 hours. The sunset outside was amazing and I was shooting out the window. I glanced over to Pat and just snapped this quick shot, adjusting the camera settings by instinct. Turned out good!

Editor’s Note: Vernon Deck has been around. The Kiwi has shot Formula1, motocross and of course, snowboarding. And The Inertia Mountain has been lucky enough to receive updates and tutorials as he travels the globe. Deck, a Volcom photographer who’s based in Switzerland, gives us a few gallery images, above, with behind-the-scenes insights as he travels with the likes of Pat Moore and Jeremy Jones. Plus he recently dropped another edition of his “Learning by Doing,” series, below. Number 9 features Bjorn Simons riding Stubai, Austria.
