Tofino is one of the very few surf towns in Canada. It is unique, with its year-round cold waves, relentless rain, incredible lush landscapes, wildlife, and an impressive amount of surfers that are dedicated to finding waves in less than desirable conditions. This town can be considered an influential surf community for the commitment of the surfers as well as the gender equality in the lineup. On any given day in Tofino, you will find females of all ages surfing in their thick neoprene suits.
Surfing is mostly a male-dominated sport, but Tofino is an example that things are changing. The inclusiveness found in the frigid lineups pushes women to get out and enjoy their time in the ocean — to celebrate surfing the same way men have always been encouraged to.
