Training is a great compliment to surfing, and helps keep you in great shape and injury free. This workout is ideal for those days when I want some exercise outdoors.

2. Plank with Leg Lift:
Bring elbows under shoulders and nose over hands. Bring both feet together and keep spine straight. Engage legs and core. Lift one leg at a time, keeping your foot flexed. Engage glutes to lift your leg. Do 10 lifts each side.

Today’s Workout:

This total body workout challenges your strength, balance and endurance. Each exercise recruits multiple muscles in all parts of the body.

Benefits:

These exercises will improve overall strength (especially upper body), and train your core to support movement. Training the deep abdominal muscles (not just the six pack) will help prevent injury, improve performance, and help tone your stomach.

Time:

This workout does not need to be done fast, rather with complete control. The exercises do not require a gym or any equipment, so try to do this routine 2-3 times per week.

How this total body workout has helped me:

Training is a great compliment to surfing, and helps keep me in great shape and injury free. This workout is ideal for those days when I want a good workout outdoors. I do these core exercises instead of crunches because they are much better for back health. This workout helps keep my stomach and arms lean and strong.
