This past weekend I had the great privilege of taking part in the 20th anniversary celebration of Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) at Sierra at Tahoe Resort.
B4BC has been committed to spreading breast cancer awareness to young people in the action sports community in a way to honor their friend, Pro Snowboarder Monica Steward, who sadly lost her battle with the disease. The B4BC crew have found a great way to honor her legacy through a multitude of outreach programs associated with the foundation, reaching over 100,000 people per year.
This event was a celebration in every sense of the word. Casual spectators were not part of the program, you had to be a participant to get involved. Whether that was by taking part in the morning’s 2-hour, 108 sun salutation yoga marathon, supporting the foundation through artwork, dancing on the dancefloor, or simply taking the time to speak with those involved about the mission. These ladies put every ounce of their hearts into this thing, and the results spoke for themselves. New friendships were made, old friendships were rekindled, and everyone witnessed the power of many unified by one cause.
Famed snowboard photographer Trevor Graves curated an art collection that was a museum of legends in its’ own right; allowing people to take some one-of-a-kind memorabilia with them.

All in all the event was a huge success. I’m still digesting the buzz, and have a renewed sense of confidence in the snowboard industry after seeing how well the community can rally to celebrate life in its finest form.
