Downhill Skating: Living on the Edge in the Hills Above Los Angeles

How to feel comfortable on the edge of control.

To many casual observers, people that longboard, or skate downhill, seem to be just barely in control. But to those practicing the art, being barely in control is in control. And these guys are practiced in the art. Boarding Media has kicked out some wicked videos lately with footage from the hills and mountain passes of Southern California. Like the “Baldy Bros,” above. Or this little ditty, below, from a place the crew calls, “The Enchanted Highway.”

We linked to Boarding Media’s Instagram page and we suggest reading the comments on some of the clips. There’s some haters out there, but mostly, these guys are inspiring a bunch of people with some pretty radical downhill runs in the Goldent State.

@nick__bfc here to break the interwebs again, this time with @couchslide along for the ride. The boys went IN on this free ride highway run. Collin with the ~55mph toe, cuz why not! Raw Runs Episode 8 coming soon! (And Nick welcome to @rogersbrosdh video in the works!) @chromaskateboards @cuei_wheels @seismicskate @rogersbrosdh • . • . • . • . • #downhillskateboarding #longboarding #extreme #skate #skateboarding #dslr #nikon #freeride #videooftheday #stoked #sendit #snowboarding #surfing #mountains #sony
