Here’s Whitewater Kayaker Dane Jackson, Surfing Weird Waves Really Well

They’re not just weird. They’re huge.

The tagline on Dane Jackson’s Instagram page pretty much sums it up: “My page is like being at a strip club, you don’t really know how you got here, but you might as well stick around.” Similarly, you don’t often know how you came across Dane Jackson, one of whitewater kayaking’s best athletes, on the internet. But once you find him, you can’t take your eyes of him and the things he pulls. Take for example the boat wake surf, above. He doesn’t just pump to stay in the wake like someone riding a board. He goes straight into what’s called an airscrew in the business. Check out more of Dane’s antics, below, at some of the weirdest, and most interesting, river waves in the world.

Here’s a cut from a giant, re-bar-filled wave on the Quebec side of Canada’s Ottawa River known as ‘Ruins Wave,’ for obvious reasons:

And then there’s this spot, somewhere in Manitoba, a ‘Dream Wave,’ for Dane and his crew:

Oh, and here’s a casual freewheel off a waterfall, just to show off Dane’s diverse skill set (and boredom with just simply ‘running’ the waterfall):
