Large Wild Cat Possibly Discovered on Hawaii’s Big Island

Hawaii has beautiful flora and fauna that has captured the imaginations of natives and tourists alike for centuries. But one thing it famously doesn’t have? Predators. That’s why the axis deer population has gotten so out of control. But there was a predator possibly spotted on Hawaii’s Big Island recently. An anonymous witness reported to the Hawaiian Department of Land and Natural Resources that he’d spotted a rather large, wild cat near his home “on the rural slopes of Hualalai above Kailua-Kona.” He compared the animal to an “American cougar, North American puma, and the southwestern lynx.” Of course the cat is not native. And the DLNR is now out to find out what it is.
