A Chinook was called in to assist in a rescue of an Army reservist who had climbed the mountain to take his own life

Using what’s called a “Pinnacle” maneuver, this Chinook helicopter was called in to rescue mode to pull a man off Oregon’s Mt. Hood who had contemplated suicide but had decided against it and needed rescue. The Chinook’s pilot pulled the man and six rescuers off the mountain using some incredible skills. Apparently, Blackhawk helicopters are more often used in these situations but the weather and altitude required a bigger aircraft. According to the report, the man was an Army reservist.
