Oy…There is no end to the human mind, always tinkering and toying with convention, working to make our lives safer and perhaps more perfect. But this inflatable bike helmet definitely takes safety a step too far. Just wear a damn Giro. The Hövding, a Swedish invention, is a meaty scarf-like apparatus worn around the neck that inflates thanks to sensors when it feels a significant jolt and is now on the market. But what if you’re riding down the sidewalk and have to stop suddenly when you turn a corner to avoid an oncoming pedestrian? Idiocy ensues as your helmet inflates upon your noggin like a marshmallow. For $350 bucks, this inflatable doodad probably isn’t worth it. But the test video is priceless (above). If you’re still not convinced, check out how cool this guy looks testing the Hövding:
This Helmet Inflates Like an Airbag; It Might Save Your Life and Will Definitely Annoy the Hell Out of You
You might get labeled a kook. But in the best possible way.
