Bryce Newcomb, a 30-year-old pro skier who was scoping lines in Cody Bowl outside Jackson Hole Resort in Wyoming yesterday when a cornice gave away, sending him plummeting 1,000 feet into the bowl. When his backcountry partners reached him he was alive but unconscious and they immediately called 911, according to reports. The Jackson Hole Ski Patrol was apparently the first to respond.

Grand Teton National Park rangers and Teton County Search and Rescue also responded to the accident. Newcomb, who grew up in Sun Valley, Idaho but now lives in Jackson, was flown to a hospital in nearby Idaho Falls. There has been no update on his injuries but they were believed to be serious. “He sustained traumatic injuries,” confirmed Tim Ciocarlan, incident commander for the rescue.

Newcomb does promotional work for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and is also an ambassador for Atomic skis. You can see more from Newcomb in his edit from last year, below.
