In 2017, inventor and CEO of Gravity Industries Richard Browning stepped up to the TED stage to discuss and demonstrate his latest invention – an honest to god jetpack. Yes, you heard (read?) me right and no, it’s not 2050 yet (or April first for that matter). The suit uses five turbines, two on each arm and one on the back to propel the user through the air for five to ten minutes at speeds of up to 84 mph. Now, three years later, the suit is being field tested for what could be its first real-world application – mountain rescue. In the video above, the suit is used to transport a paramedic up a mountain to a patient, turning an arduous 25-minute hike into an exhilarating 90-second ride.
