A lot happened on Day 5 of the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro. First, and most importantly, Carissa Moore won. In  four-to-six foot waves at Main Break, Moore established dominance early and held it close for the duration to secure her second consecutive Margaret River victory.

After she was chaired up the beach, the Men’s heats hit the water. Taj Burrow faced off against Bede Durbidge in a heat that eventually was called a do-over. Burrow’s hand snagged Durbidge’s leash while he was paddling for a set wave that could have had the potential to change the entire heat outcome.

Other noteworthy events were Gabriel Medina’s win over John John Florence. As of Monday, Medina is first in the ASP World Tour rankings, sitting at 10,000 points.

Current World Champ Mick Fanning fell to Yadin Nichol in Heat 6 after unloading on a Main Break right. A massive, full rotation aerial on his first maneuver followed by a series of frontside bashes netted him a 9.77 and secured his heat win.
