With a highly active coastline come hurricane season, New Jersey is one of the brightest strips of east coast surf. Especially this winter when swells wouldn’t quit, temperatures refused to rise and snow dumped the entire northeast region of the country. New Jersey surfers, at least the diehards, celebrated as their stoke was satiated all season long. Myriad beaches mean no shortage of options to choose the site of your morning barrel.

That said, the state does get a bad rap. Given its plentiful and quality of surf, it’s not exactly fair. Called “The Armpit of America” by some, it’s actually not all bad. In fact, it has numerous bright spots. Here are 25 reasons why New Jersey is underrated.
