We parked at our campsite, ran out of the car with camera in hand, and saw this. Already frothing. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

These rolling hills ran into the ocean, holding back a dense layer of clouds and allowing the sun to shine all day—the stars shone all night, too. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

Friend and fellow photographer, Anthony Renna, soaking it all in between sets. Wading out there by ourselves, with the exception of a massive seal, was an eerie vibe, but totally worth it. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

Couldn't stop amping on the backdrops. It doesn't really get much better than this. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

There's something extra fun about dodging lips and frothing on shots with another photographer in the water. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

Granite reef slabs. Don't worry, we swam out there eventually. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

Took this from the table at our campsite. My cloud fetish was going off. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

Post-sundown grooves. Taking long exposures on the beach against strong wind and sand blowing towards you, and an incoming tide is actually quite hilarious. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

Anthony and I swam out here during low tide. Not sure if it was more sketchy or fun. As the waves would form, it would drain hard. We'd be left with about a foot and a half of water at our legs, and a lip at our necks. Go over or under? Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

If the slick reef and draining slabs weren't enough excitement, the heavy patches of seaweed wrapping around our legs was definitely the cherry on top. Would I do it again? Of course I would. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography

Popping up out the back and getting absolutely blasted by sea spray was something I've never experienced at this level. Photo: Cory Gehr Photography
A group of friends and I drove up California’s Central Coast for some good ol’ camping vibes, uncrowded surf, and simply to enjoy a few relaxing days away from the city. We ended up scoring the most incredible sunsets and some insanely entertaining, windy conditions. And although the waves were not exactly stellar, this trip exceeded any of our expectations. It was truly a trip to remember. Here’s a small collection of photos taken over the weekend. Enjoy!
