A Reminder of Why Malibu Isn’t Really a Fun Place to Surf

There’s a lot of romanticism attached to surfing Malibu. But it isn’t all that and a bag of donuts. It’s mostly about June gloom, longboards and getting burned.

There’s so much romanticism attached to surfing Malibu. It’s one of California’s original surf towns and was made famous up the road in Hollywood. But it ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. It may seem like sunshine and longboards and bikinis. But it’s mostly June gloom, mid-lengths, and getting burned. Dropping in on people is so common, that most surfers taking off on waves think they got dropped in on, then wave their arms in frustration without ever looking back to realize that they actually dropped in on someone, too. There’s no doubt it’s a fun wave. It’s just a bit too much fun, attracting thousands and thousands and thousands of people. That’s too many. This video recently showed up on YouTube to remind us of that.
