“What am I going to do, paddle to the New Zealand?” It’s one of the best lines in the preeminent cult classic, Point Break, where Bodhi begs Utah to let him paddle back out at maxing Bells for one more wave. “He’s not coming back,” Utah tells police as they run down to the beach, incredulous at the fact that Utah just let his man run. Well Bells Beach got a Point Break-like swell this month and while it didn’t exactly look death defying, it lit up the bowl and Winkipop.
