There is no better feeling than sharing some waves with my two boys, Ozzy (7) and Hendrix (11). The wave setup for kids is just about perfect. I think my kids caught some of the best waves of their life so far! Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

We had a chance to take really fun shots with Joel. The water was so clear! I never knew if he was shooting above or below. Sometimes he got both… Hendrix spending good, quality time with his dad. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

Got to thank Hobie for sending me another amazing and fun board, This four-fin had a lot of speed and was great in the tube. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

One of the highlights was to go surfing by seaplane, which took us about an hour away from Kandooma and landed next to an amazing right hander. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

Having fun and enjoying a little surf session that we got to by seaplane. It was a first for me to travel that way — to take off and land on the water was a great way to see so many spots in such a short amount of time. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

One of the greatest parts of the trip was being able to paddle out and see my son just having fun and cranking turns. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

This is a little sand island we would visit every day by Hobie Cat. We just loved being on a little slice of heaven, even for a moment. We even sometimes had lunch there. I don’t think we ever got used to how clear the water was and is — and how amazing all the different colors of blue were. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

Petra’s favorite spot. I love the colors that the Maldives can produce. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

Ozzy’st first attempt at sailboarding. He just loved how the wind and his lit’ umbrella would take him all over. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

We just could not get enough of the ocean’s beauty. It made for some great snorkel sessions. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

Early morning session with Joel Coleman. He shot all the photos shown here with some amazing cameras, like the one he used for this one. He had the lens half-above and half-below water while the flash was completely submerged. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

Early morning lefts. This was the last session I had with Joel and crew; they left the next day. For the last three days of our trip, the waves got to be the best I have seen in years: perfect peeling rights with endless tubes, and no one around. Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion

We had two concerts on the island, and they became the best beach james with everyone and anyone who wanted to join in doing so. We had so much fun all singing and playing together. I can’t wait to do it again next year... Photo: Joel Coleman | Saltmotion
We just had the pleasure of visiting this amazing island in the Maldives — it’s called Kandooma. I don’t think we have had a better family surf trip than this one. The Maldives are covered with hundreds, maybe thousands of little atolls everywhere, which makes for some unbelievable water color and surf setups. There are waves for every level of surfing and especially for the groms.
Our trip was put together by The Perfect Wave who hooked up two concerts on this island, and amazing surf sessions with some great people from all over the world. These are the highlights from our trip.
