Award-winning photo. National Geographic (2012) and Nature's Best Ocean Awards (2013). A clean duck dive to get under a breaking wave over the reef at Cloudbreak, Fiji. This image became significant from the amount of response it received from National Geographic. Although it is a simple duck dive shot, the timing of day and the light make it very eye catching and, in turn, made it internationally recognized in the mainstream media. Photo: Lucia Griggi

Camping under a starry night in Baja, Mexico. This was my first trip down to Scorpion Bay, Mexico. I was in need of a two-week soul mission to surf a good wave with no work involved. In saying that, I did have to shoot but enjoyed every minute! We were on a shoot with Tony Alva and his crew. At night, I camped in this little tent by the water's edge. It was memorable because I had time to surf myself and I got to see Baja for what it really is. Photo: Lucia Griggi

The morning calm before the bustling crowds clamor into the city. Queens, New York. This was my first time in NYC, and I was passing through from Puerto Rico after a surf trip. It was quite a contrast in lifestyle. I too was awaiting a train to venture into the city. Photo: Lucia Griggi

The Firewalkers of Yanuca Island, Fiji. This photograph I took for the cover of Fiji Air. I lived on the island of Yanuca with these people and lived the local life which was simple, invigorating and beautiful. It was memorable as it was a very unique experience. I did, however, become ill with bronchitis, which resulted in one of the villagers finding leaves from the jungle to heal and control my infection. I learned a lot and enjoyed a nearby wave called Frigates Pass. Photo: Lucia Griggi

Pipeline, Hawaii. Taken during the Pipeline Masters last year during Kelly's 10-point wave. I was shooting with my Lensbaby lenses which I love to throw in the mix. Action is hard to capture with them as the focus is very hard to get right on a moving subject, but I managed to get this frame.
