Adriano de Souza won the Margaret River Drug Aware Pro yesterday. In an event that tested the competitors to their limits, de Souza never dropped the ball. His surfing remained on point and in form from the Box’s shit-kicking wedginess to Main Break’s huge walls.

While Margaret River has been the subject of some scrutiny for years–it hasn’t always been the highest performing wave on tour–this year, it showed its true colors. From the outset, at the early rounds at the Box, the event was incredible. A few days before the waiting period, forecasters called a 10-20 foot swell stumbling into the contest area, and excitement was high. When the swell arrived, it didn’t disappoint, and de Souza didn’t either. Right now, the Brazilian is looking like he’s shaping up to be the next world champ–and the Brazilian Storm just got a little wilder.
