Here Are Some of the Best Big Waves Caught in San Diego This Winter

The YouTube page SoCal Surfer put together this 10-minute highlight reel of some of the best big waves caught this winter in San Diego. It’s worth the watch.

Southern California isn’t the first location that comes to mind when one thinks of big waves. Performance surf? Sure, Lower Trestles (and sometimes Rincon) come to mind. But further south, there are places that hold big swell. And the YouTube page SoCal Surfer put together this 10-minute highlight reel of some of the best big waves caught this winter.

“While XL surf is rare in San Diego,” reads the video description, “it’s a special reminder that San Diego has beaches that can hold XL surf. There are only a handful of waves in the world that can hold the magnitude of an XL swell and Black’s Beach and La Jolla cove are two of those arenas.”

One of the biggest swells of the winter, or the last few years for that matter, hit in early January. And while not all the waves in this video are gigantic, this is a brief recap of the winter that was – and it’s well worth the watch.
