Here’s Kai Lenny Upping the Performance Level at Jaws and Getting Torn Apart All at Once

Big, unruly, scary. Last week when Kai Lenny and Mark Visser motored out of Maliko Gulch, they thought it might be rowdy out at Maui’s big wave gem, but they probably didn’t expect it to be quite this rowdy. Lenny was tearing into the large canvas that is Peahi on his tow board, and Jaws was definitely biting back. Onshore winds made for more closeouts and the faces of barrels would suddenly turn into vertical walls without warning. It was ugly and beautiful all at the same time—but that’s how big, unruly surf usually is.
