Oh, the claim. Whatever your thoughts are on it, it’s a thing that happens in the world. Everyone from all walks of life does it, whether it’s Jordy Smith, Gabriel Medina, or Average Joe from down the road who loves to claim a wave that’s a two-foot mush burger.
When you really do get a good one, it can be hard to keep your face straight, your arms down, and avoid celebrating. And you know what? You just go ahead and do whatever it is that floats your boat. We’re not here to yuck anyone’s yum, after all, and a claim hurts no one.
But sometimes, some people might claim a little early… like the guy in the video above, who claimed a great barrel and took his eyes off the prize. He appears to be a surfer who knows what he’s doing, but all the same, the ocean made sure he didn’t get too big of a head by smashing his directly into the drink.
