When Kelly Slater can’t control his excitement at a surf contest, you know something extraordinary is happening. Opening day of the 2014 Billabong Pro Tahiti delivered the extraordinary. From horrific spills over the falls by CJ Hobgood to magnificent barrel rides, pro surfing lived up to its potential today, and it’s looking like it’s only going to get better.
