I was lucky enough to meet up with Chris Burkard for some of this swell, along with Keith and Dan Malloy. The passion they all have for the ocean and surfing is beyond inspirational, and watching them all doing what they love these couple days was an epic experience. 2014 started off with a bang. A really big bang, which included big storms, bigger waves and, when the dust settled, intensely beautiful settings. From all corners of the world, this was a spectacular way to usher in the new year. The images above span the entire month of January and the major events that came with it–Hercules, the Mavericks Invitational, and California finally received some long-awaited winter swell, among others.
