If you ever find yourself walking down to Pipeline and you see Koa Rothman, Nate Florence, Jamie O’Brien, and Eli Olson sitting in the sand instead of surfing, you might consider taking the hint. They all agree, according to Rothman’s vlog, that “THIS WAS THE MOST DANGEROUS DAY SURFING PIPE…” Hyperbolic? Most certainly. But dangerous? Also most certainly.
The next day, however, things cleaned up some. And the next day, and the next, and the next. It qualified as a swell bender, at least from Koa’s perspective, and as is the case when the waves are firing for days on end, Koa, Nate and all the rest made sure to get their fill while they could. Winter doesn’t last forever, and it’s what Pipe surfers live for.
