The Outer Reef at Popoyo in Nicaragua. I shot this in May of this year (2015) during the huge south swell we got at the beginning of the month. I booked my ticket the night before the peak of the swell and arrived to this the next morning straight off the plane. This shot makes the wave look a lot more perfect than it really is. What you don’t see here is the boils on the face in the take off zone, steps that need navigating and wide sets that can clean you up and smash you into the sharp ledgy reef which is only a few feet below the surface. Wave selection is critical and it was quite the experience to see this spot going off. Photo: Evan Conway

I was born and raised on Long Island, New York and spent much of my youth in the ocean. Shooting since the age of fifteen, I have always gravitated toward the ocean, pulling inspiration from the ever-changing tides of creativity it offers. Before I graduated from high school, I started my own surf media site, Red Dawn Productions.
My work can be found on the Surfrider Foundation‘s 2012 Global Surf Calendar, in various issues of Eastern Surf Magazine, DEEP Magazine, Wavelength magazine, online features by Surfline and Six Magazine, among others. I graduated from Brooks Institute with a Bachelors of Fine Arts and a concentration in commercial photography.
