Bob McTavish is a pillar of the surfing world. The longtime board shaper helped usher in the modern shortboard with his work on redesigning rails and bottom contours (although he’s humbly given Al Merrick credit for building the first perfect shortboard). To watch him surf Byron Bay, at the young age of 76, is pretty inspiring. Never quit riding waves. It’ll keep you young forever.
