Outer Banks Continues to Fire (on Ice)

Frigid winds howling out of the North put the windchill into the 20s and dropped the water temp into the 40s. The surf was pretty good all day long for those of us who fought the cold.

In the background on the horizon line you can see diamond shoals. Thats probably 4 miles away from where I'm standing, think about how big that on the left backwash is... Photo: Benny Crum

Recently, all of the swells in the Outer Banks have been coming from the South, which brings up warm water and air, but this last run of surf in February gave us a slight reality check. Frigid winds howling out of the North put the windchill into the 20s and dropped the water temp into the 40s. The surf was pretty good all day long for those of us who fought the cold.

The photos tell the story. It was worth it.
