Outer Banks Surfers Have Much to Be Thankful For This Year

During Thanksgiving 2015, the Outer Banks scored a solid stretch of swell, and all the locals were psyched.

Fall is usually the best time of year for the Outer Banks, but this year we scored an epic week of solid surf and offshore winds over Thanksgiving. The sandbars around Avalon Pier were all working excellent. Matched with above average air and water temperatures, this swell was a much welcomed treat for the wave-hungry surfers of the Outer Banks.

All the surfers in this gallery live within a few miles of this stretch of beach, and with several different peaks firing, the crowds were minimal. For us out here, trading off perfect barrels with just a few friends is what makes the flat spells and high congestion of Summer worth dealing with.
