Surfers and surfing have given me back a positive attitude towards life after a tragedy that cost me most of my family. I love shooting NSSA events because the stoke of groms is amazing and uplifting.

My name is Mike Healey, and I am a traveling surf and surf lifestyle photographer from Santa Cruz, California. I photograph the NSSA Western Regionals and the NSSA Finals every year and follow the Northern California groms as they learn to compete at Trestles and Huntington Beach. The Hawai’i winter season is also a yearly trip for me and I published a re-cap of the 2013/14 season.
Surfers and surfing have given me back a positive attitude towards life after a tragedy that cost me most of my family. I love shooting NSSA events because the stoke of groms is amazing and uplifting. I also shoot outdoor portraiture and coastal landscapes. Wherever I am in the world, I’m never far from the coast.
And thank you to the surfers of Santa Cruz who have taught me how to capture surfing and stay positive and to the Hawai’ians who teach me about aloha.
