Surfing isn’t just riding a shortboard. It’s not just riding a longboard, a stand up paddle board, or a boogie board. It’s not just body surfing or using a hand plane or a kite board–surfing is all of those. Surfing is riding waves. All the rest is just semantics.
Kitesurfing, much like bodyboarding, might not have the following that surfing does, but it sure does have its share of passionate, super dedicated people who are finding and charging waves all over the world. This video in particular follows Patri McLaughlin as he goes from Namibia to Mauritius to Indonesia, and finally to Maui. He scores everywhere he goes, and it is truly surfing.
