Last night at Turtle Bay was surreal. Two of the classiest gents in the biz, Mr. Rob Machado and Mr. Kelly Slater, came out to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their high five at Pipe Masters and The Inertia’s 5th birthday with the Hawaii premiere of Hi-5: Rob Machado, Kelly Slater, and Surfing’s Greatest Heat, . Nearly twenty years ago to the day, Rob and Kelly were competing for a world title in magical conditions at Pipeline when they managed to set their competitive ambitions aside to share their lifelong camaraderie on a world stage. It was kind of a big deal. Following the film, Rob and Kelly sat down together in front of a packed house and discussed the high five for the very first time. What followed was one of the most epic nights in surf history we’ve ever had the good fortune to participate in.
