South of the Border Swell: Puerto Escondido Goes Off

I’ve always had an appreciation for water photography, but it wasn’t until a few months ago that I decided to invest in it. Here are a series of images I shot over four days during the recent swell at Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

If you're not lucky enough to make the pit, you'll probably end up taking a lot of these on the head. The rip currents will keep you in the impact zone. It's really heavy. Photo: John Maher

I’ve always had an appreciation for water photography, but it wasn’t until a few months ago that I decided to invest in it. Now I spend half my time in the water surfing and the other half shooting photos. It’s a great balance.

Here are a series of images I shot over four days during the recent swell at Puerto Escondido, Mexico. This trip is the first time I’ve shot surfers in the water.
