Since 1984, the Surfrider Foundation has done some incredible work to protect the coastlines that we as surfers hold dear. If the work alone doesn’t speak for itself, the guest list of their annual Two Coasts: One Ocean event in Malibu will. From Steph Gilmore to Kelly Slater, Mike D of the Beastie Boys to Robert Trujillo of Metallica (and Johnny Knoxville!) this year’s iteration boasted an incredible lineup of athletes, musicians, and celebrities – all gathered to support the mission of Surfrider.
It was an opportunity to mingle, schmooz, party down, and raise money. Surfrider CEO Chad Nelsen addressed the crowd highlighting the incredible work the organization has done to date, and to highlight key policy initiatives moving forward. Namely, he said, to hold the California Coastal Commission accountable in its enforcement of the Coastal Act.
A highlight of the night was when The Helmets, featuring Robert Trujillo’s son Ty, took the stage – melting faces and banging heads. No strangers to long haired thrashing, Steph Gilmore and Robert Trujillo joined the groms onstage to everyone’s delight.
