210 miles east of Bali lies the island of Sumbawa. Rumors of perfect waves on this 6,000 square mile island have kept surfers cycling through the area for years. It’s the perfect getaway for those who want a change of pace from life on Bali and aren’t interested in battling the crowds at Desert Point. With a little bit of local knowledge and the will to explore, you can find yourself surfing perfect and empty waves. Hiring a local boat captain and motoring to some more remote sections of the island is well worth the money as there are a lot of waves that are only accessible by boat. If you’re not keen on surfing every day, there are plenty of land-based sights like waterfalls and hot springs that will take your breath away…but let’s be real, who would ever get tired of surfing this every day?
