From April 5 through 15 this year, I was hosting a week long surf camp in Indonesia, on the Mentawai islands, at Kandui Resort.
This photo was on our first day arriving to the island. It's at a spot called Bank Vaults, a very fun right hander that gets really good on the right swell
and has an amazing tube. At the right size, it was a fun warm up session. Photo: Kandui Resort
It's always fun to surf a new spot and this was one of those spots. It's a secret spot that the Kandui guys found and we surfed here a lot. It's a very fun right hander and there was only just our camp out there which made it really special. It's always fun to surf with just your friends. Photo: Islandeye Photography
This was our transportation from the island to all the surf spots around Kandui. I had a lot of fun riding my new 3-fin Hobie. Photo: Islandeye Photography
This photo was taken at one of the most consistent spots in Kandui. It's called 4 Bob's, and it is always a lot fun every night for watching the sunset and surfing. Photo: Rodney Bursiel
This is another photo from the secret spot at Kandui. I love how in this photo you can see the left as well. It's always great to have a peak situation — you can go either left or right here. Photo: Islandeye Photography
The secret spot and endless peeling rights. They went on for ever this day and it was one of the highlight sessions of the trip. Photo: Islandeye Photography
This was my favorite surf spot on this trip. It's called Piggy Banks: super shallow little right tubes... always fun. Photo: Kandui Resort
Another fun sunset session at 4 Bob's. It always breaks here no matter how small the waves get. Photo: Rodney Bursiel
It gets shallow out there and this is what its like above and below at Kandui. Photo: Rodney Bursiel
When the water gets this clear, the photographers have many more options. This is always one of my favorite views. Photo: Rodney Bursiel
I love riding all types of boards but i had such a good time on this trip riding my Hobie 3 fin: it was fast and kept driving thru the turns — always a good combination. Photo: Rodney Bursiel
From April 5 through 15 this year, I was hosting a week long surf camp in Indonesia, on the Mentawai islands, at Kandui Resort. It’s a very historical resort, where some of the best surfers in the word have stayed and filmed for some of the best surf movies. Even though the waves never got too big this trip, we still found really fun waves all over. I have been hosting these camps with Billabong for about five years now — we have done them all over the world from El Salvador to Costa Rica, Peru, and Indonesia. It’s so much fun meeting people from so many different places and all surfing at different levels; it’s a week of trying to get the best waves we can and get better at surfing and have as much fun as we can.
