The trip was on after a few quick phone calls. We got Alex Gray to come from America. He had the longest journey. Ryan Hipwood and Riley Laing got on board, and Lachlan McKinnon came along to film. Mikala Jones and I were frothing to get out there, and it came together in the end.
It’s always a challenge chasing swells in a chaotic foreign country – Indonesia being at the top of the list. Every once in a while, you get a bit of luck as most trips can get a bit pear-shaped at one point or another.
We had one wave in mind, and for the first three days, it was mediocre. The conditions came together on the last day, wave after perfect wave. It’s an indescribable feeling when everything comes together at the last moment. It makes you believe you’re where you’re supposed to be in life.
