Huntington Beach surfer Ryan Mahar designed the site. When he showed me the first set of design options, this version came last, and I don’t think Ryan thought for a second I’d go for it. This was the slightly experimental one. The other designs were super nice, but this one popped up onscreen and without even thinking I said “That’s it.” Every day, for more than two years now, I’ve been looking at this orange-trimmed homepage grid, and every day it quietly challenges me to live up to its level of grace, form and function.
