My favorite image ever. A lot of elements had to come together for this image. Photo: MattBurt
Blazing Cold. Taken in Victoria after three previous attempts to score waves there. I went down for three days and saw waves I couldn't believe existed. Photo: MattBurt
Paddle power, always. Ocean Beach San Francisco. By far the most impressive paddle surfing I have ever seen. Photo: MattBurt
North Coast style. The surfers on the North Coast of NSW are by far some of the most underrated. They surf for love, and they do it well. Photo: MattBurt
Speed is freedom. For some reason, I have always loved that idea of going fast on a wave. Photo: MattBurt

My name is Matthew Burt. I’m 25, and I’m from the Gold Coast in Australia. I am in love with the ocean and capturing the moments that it breeds. I first picked up a camera around seven years ago when I started taking photos of my friends and our adventures. From there, it has just manifested into something that consumes me every day.
I enjoy trying to take ocean photography away from the normalcy of peope riding waves and turning my photos into something that people look at and wonder how or why. I feel like this fact is something has kept me so addicted. To be able to take something different every day is the ultimate canvas.
From here, I’d love to be able to continue to learn about photography and collaborate with like-minded people to create exciting images.
