I call this one Pre Bertha. This was shot where I live in Cape May, NJ. It's where I shoot all of my shore break because its one of the only places in New Jersey where there shore break just goes off! I shot this as we were the first to get a taste of Bertha the night before she made impact. Photo: Matt Ciancaglini

This photo was taken this past monday on the first day of fall 9/22/14. It's weird because this was taken with my GoPro, which I haven't used in months. I invested in a housing at the beginning of the summer. I was having issues with it Monday and said to myself, "screw it, I'm still going to shoot." Busted out the GoPro and I was just amazed with this shot. I'm amazed how I've progressed as a photographer. I see it so much in this shot. Photo: Matt Ciancaglini

Pre Cristobal swell. Such a fun afternoon. Boated into this spot because theres no other way of getting to it. Anchored up, hoped in and just scored for a few hours until the sun went down. Then headed in to have few beers. Defines summer, nothing better. Photo: Matt Ciancaglini

This was Cristobal the next day. I headed up to AC and it was going off! This is my boy Ken Shiles tucked in nice on a deep one. I remember swimming out and I said to myself "is this summer or am I dreaming? It seams like a winter swell but the water is warm and I'm in board shorts? Photo: Matt Ciancaglini

Cristobal. A picture of Sean Taylor dropping into one. The current was so bad this day, and was hard for me to get into position. I was kicking as hard as I could to just barely stay in a spot and I got swept out as Sean dropped in. Still turned out to be a good capture. Photo: Matt Ciancaglini

left AC and headed south for the rest of Cristobal. I was taking a beating from the current and heard the shore break was going off at home so headed back. I made perfect timing because it was just me, myself, and double overhead swells for the rest of the day! Photo: Matt Ciancaglini

This was Cristobal flaring out. The swell was coming in heavy and some serious backwash was happening. Reminded me of The Wedge in Newport Beach, CA. These waves were just flaring out so far, it was unreal to experience. Photo: Matt Ciancaglini

No better way to start the 1st day of fall in New Jersey. This surfer is unknown as of now. I'm sure I'll find out soon, because he was absolutely killing it. Throw it back to Independence Day. Hurricane Arthur, July 4, 2014. We got hit hard in Cape May. We were first with the swell and I was on it. The shorebreak was insane and one of the best I've ever seen it. I was actually watching the sets and doubting it before I went in. I'm glad I did because it was awesome. Expect for me getting kicked out by lifeguards after 3 hours of me hiding in the shore break. Little do they know but I would be saving them if they came into the ocean. Photo: Matt Ciancaglini
