Waveskis are so few and far between in lineups these days, few might know they were actually pioneered in the 1970s. From hydrofoils to stand-up paddleboards, body boards to kneeboards, alternative surf craft are common objects of scorn among surfing traditionalists – in spite of the resurgence of a “ride anything” attitude that celebrates asymmetry and retro. So if that list above caused you to bristle, you’re gonna hate this waveski edit. But really, these guys couldn’t care less. Océane Lucas, Clément Guilbert, and Virgile Humbert are absolutely ripping somewhere in Indo. And just because they dance to the beat of a different drum, doesn’t mean they don’t deserve props when they’ve downright earned them.
