Vintage Hawaii: 21 Photos from the Best Time to be a Surfer

In 1959, Tim McCullough moved from Catalina Island to Oahu, Hawaii. A few years later, under the tutelage of Rabbit Kekai, he began surfing. After watching John Severson's "Going my Wave", McCullough's blossoming interest in photography turned into a full-fledged passion with a sharp focus on surf.

In 1959, Tim McCullough moved from Catalina Island to Oahu, Hawaii. Right around that time, the commercial jet airliner was introduced, allowing the masses to realize the perfection that lies on those golden shores.

A few years later, under the tutelage of Rabbit Kekai, he began surfing. After watching John Severson’s “Going my Wave”, McCullough’s blossoming interest in photography turned into a full-fledged passion with a sharp focus on surf.
