Billy Kemper is a standout at one of the world’s scariest waves. He’s won the Pea’hi Challenge not once, but twice. He has this odd calmness about him when surfing a wave that would make most people evacuate their bowels. But he didn’t get the odd calmness from yoga or mindful breathing. He got it from surfing Jaws a LOT. Of course, when you surf a wave like Jaws a lot, you’re going to pay the price every now and then. This wipeout from the 2017 Pea’hi Challenge was a very steep price. The entire ocean landed directly on his head, which, had he been wearing it, would have knocked his signature cowboy hat clean off.
Sure, it happened a while ago, but now it’s been entered into the Wipeout of the Year Awards. Relevant!
