Have you ever been to the Wedge on a big day? I almost drove to Malibu today…but decided to head south to Newport Beach, California instead. Turns out, it was the right call.
The Wedge was absolutely crazy — huge waves, crazy wipeouts, long lulls, even some weird wind showing up later. In the edit above, I broke today’s session down into a list: why I chose The Wedge, the good waves, wipeouts, action on the sand, and more.
There is nothing like standing on the sand only a few feet from a powerful slab wave like this one. It’s a spot that pushes surfers to the brink, and I love filming it. If you haven’t been there on a big south swell, it’s something you need to see. In the meantime, enjoy this view.
