It’s about that time of year again. Things around Maui are just beginning to settle down. The waves have gone flat and a dramatic mental shift is taking shape. Heading into a much-needed and relaxing summer season, we bid farewell to a big-wave season that will undoubtedly go down in the history books.
Welcome to Pe’ahi features some of the largest swells to hit Jaws in over a decade. And as a result, the wave itself served as major crowd control, separating the men from the boys. Still, there were a few brave souls who were willing to stare this beast of a wave straight in the eye. Among many others, guys like Kai Lenny, Aaron Gold, Ian Walsh, Shane Dorian, and Albee Layer took on Mother Nature’s scariest and most beautiful marvels.
