Flat Day Frontiers with Peter Mendia and the Lopez Brothers
With the Personal Water Propulsion system, even the smallest swells will do. Heck, is there wake? Like from a boat? Go for it! You're fine!

"There is endless fun on a small to flat day. With the stand up sup fishing board, you can get to areas in an ocean or lake without wasting any energy to have a fun full day." - Peter Mendia Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"My kids love to cruise around on the boogie board, catching little ripples that wouldn't be possible without the WaveJet." - PM Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"My seven-year-old son Kepa goes out in front of my mom’s house in the intercoastal water way — which is dead flat and waits for big boats to go by — and surfs the wakes off the boats. This one time he drew a big crowd and when he came in they couldn't understand how he was moving without a wave. When he came in all he said was, 'I wear this watch and push this button and it starts the engine in my board.' It was epic." - PM Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"For me, on small days, I bring out the longboard with the kids, riding waves forever. Or I’ll launch the standup paddle fishing board and make it a fishing day." - Corey Lopez Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"I live on a river, and launch out from there into red fish and trout grounds, even at night." - CL Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"There are also blue fish, or Jacks, but we’re going for the red fish." - CL Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"I'm always looking for ways to have fun and then have more of it. That means catching waves that excite me, fish that delight me." - Shea Lopez Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"In doing so I've covered some large distances across hazardous waters and sketchy terrain. This last trip we went exploring for new surf zones on was a real eye-opener to me." - SL Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"With the aid of increased speed and the safety of a wavejet under my feet I was having more fun than ever in my environment." - SL Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
"The new fishing sup model is something I want to have with me on every adventure." - SL Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
Flat days — for all intents and purposes — mean no surf. After all, if waves and surf are intrinsically tied together, and flat implies no waves, then flat would also imply no surf. No more. Throw that mumbo jumbo out with the trash ’cause WaveJet has decided otherwise. With a personal water propulsion system, even the smallest swells will do. Heck, is there wake? Like from a boat? Go for it! And you get a handy control to strap onto your wrist and rev up. Need ideas on what to do? We caught up with WaveJet team riders Peter Mendia, Corey Lopez, and Shea Lopez who had ideas aplenty.
Peter was particularly stoked: “There is endless fun on a small to flat day. With the stand up sup fishing board, you can get to areas in an ocean or lake without wasting any energy to have a fun full day.”
Not much for small surf or *gasp* paddle boarding? Well, aside from the longboard and SUP choices, there’s a quiver of options from body boards to sticks and guns. And Garrett McNamara is stoked about them, so there’s that as well.
