My favorite part of summer is that it's winter somewhere else in the world. And it takes me to very far away places in the southern hemisphere.
Ian Walsh wants to skydive this summer. Sounds like a plan.
1. Skydiving. It’s a perfect time to learn to get certified to sky dive. I’ve been four or five times. I’d like to get my certification and be able to get my own shoot and rock up whenever. Photo: Red Bull
2. I like to take off to the Southern Hemisphere to chase swell in the summer. It’s winter there, and that’s kind of how I make summer count. Winter is constantly where the biggest waves in the world are. Hawaii is kind of quiet swell-wise in the summer. Photo: Jared Aufrichtig
3. BBQ. That’s something I always think about when it comes to summer. You have to BBQ. Photo: Shutterstock
4. Racecar driving. Summer is a good time for that. I’m going to do this Ferrari racetrack in Vegas in August, so summer is a good time to try out other sports too. Get my speed fix. Mountain biking is taking a little back seat after I got a fresh eighteen stitches in my forearm last week. Photo: Shutterstock
5. Full-on beach day. There’s more of a beachy vibe to summer. It’s less about just going surfing and more about having an entire beach day with your friends. Photo: Jack Dekort
For me personally, my favorite part of summer is that it’s winter somewhere else in the world. That means that I’m going to far away destinations to get waves. Summer takes me to the Southern Hemisphere – places like Indonesia, West Australia, West Africa, Chile, and Fiji. That’s the best part for me. But if I had to narrow it down to one generalization about the best part of summer, it’s that everyone is excited to be outside. There’s a lot more activity. People are out and about. Longer days. The sun’s up. Warmer temperatures. More activity. It’s more vibrant, and everyone’s got a good vibe. I love that. It’s all about finding fun – summer or not.
