Surfing with dolphins is an incredible experience and a privilege. Here in Southern California it’s something we’ve become almost too familiar with. When these beautiful animals suddenly bombard a lineup, most surfers here just shrug their shoulders and redirect their attention back to the horizon. That is, of course, with the exception of the one overjoyed guy who once saw a dolphin at Sea World when he was 12. While surfing in New Zealand, these guys had a pretty wild encounter with a friendly pod of dolphins—almost too friendly. They got extremely close at the 0:50 marker, which was probably just as startling as it was a beautiful moment. But from our perspective it’s just pure awesomeness. Question is, would you be a little freaked out?
