Gray Whales Surface Right Next to a California Highway

Gray Whales surface right next to a California highway in between Point Dume in Los Angeles and Point Mugu. Whales are a common sight in California right now.

When spring is in full swing in California, the spray from whales spouting is a relatively common sight. That doesn’t make it any less amazing, though — whales are one of those creatures that one just can’t get enough of. In the video you see above, Carlos Gauna, aka the Malibu Artist, filmed as a group of gray whales surface near the coast highway.

Generally, Gauna focusses most of his attention on great white sharks in the area.

Point Dume, an area in Malibu, is a fantastic spot to whale watch. That’s where Gauna started following the whales, and he he ended near Point Mugu, about a 30 minute drive north along the coast. At some points, they surface a mere 50 yards from the highway.
